Tony
Bari sax
Tony Rico is one of the original members of The Soulistics. He has been the baritone saxophonist since the band began. A huge fan of the neo-soul uprising, Tony’s influences include The Diplomats of Solid Sound, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Cookin’ on 3 Burners, Speedometer, Breakestra and Orgone. In addition to soul, funk, R&B and neo-soul; Tony’s musical interests include Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and Latin Jazz.
John
Tenor sax and flute
John Flanders has been one of the most in-demand woodwind players in Salt Lake City and the Intermountain West for over a decade, working across tenor saxophone and flute. His credits span TV and radio commercials, movie soundtracks, and concert stages across the US and Europe, including tours through Italy, France, Germany, and Switzerland. A multiple City Weekly Best of Utah award winner, John has performed with the Utah Symphony, played the National Anthem solo at NBA games, and shared the stage with The Temptations, Billy Preston, Solomon Burke, Ben Folds, and Sam Moore. He also leads his own group, Double Helix, which puts a high-energy spin on jazz, swing, funk, and Latin music.
Dave
Trumpet
Dave Terran grew up in Los Angeles, where music ran in the family: his parents met at a Hollywood jazz club, his mother a featured vocalist and his father, Tony Terran, playing trumpet with the band. Tony went on to become one of the most recorded studio musicians in Hollywood history, a core member of The Wrecking Crew, and the lead trumpet and soloist on I Love Lucy for six years. Dave studied the trumpet primarily under his dad, moved to Salt Lake City during college, and has been performing professionally ever since. He plays across funk, soul, blues, jazz, R&B, salsa, and Latin jazz, working with a variety of bands and artists across the US and internationally.
Adam
Keys, samples, synths
Adam Holladay started playing the piano at the age of 5. After a degree in composition, a masters degree in electronic music and years writing and producing music in front of a computer, Adam realized it would be more fun to join a great band and play the electric piano and Hammond organ in a fine funky fashion. So he did. Besides all that, he is the only English member of the band, and his influences are the two Herbies, the one Stevie and the one and only Dudley Moore.
Mike
Guitar
Mike Moran’s journey into music started outside of Detroit, Michigan in the 80s where he grew up a fan of his uncle, Chick Corea, and would never miss a chance to see his band perform live when they came through town. So at age 16 he spent his life’s savings on a bass amp, joined a band and has been playing music ever since. Mike has opened for Switchfoot and Sixpence None The Richer.
Matt
Bass
Matt Clayton has been playing bass since the age of 12 and has spent decades exploring a wide range of musical styles. His influences span soul, jazz, classical, bluegrass, country, and salsa, giving him a versitile approach that allows him to feel at home in almost any musical setting.
As a bassist, Matt believes the most important place to be is "in the pocket" - locking in with the rhythm section to create the groove that makes great music come alive. Whether laying down a soulful bass line, driving a country tune, or supporting a high-energy dance floor, he enjoys helping the band sound its best from the foundation up.
He's currently digging all things Yacht Rock Radio on SiriusXM, appreciating the timeless grooves and musicianship that continue to inspire his playing.
Jarod
Drums
Jarod Manis started playing on ice cream buckets at age 9 and played his first real gig at 13 with his dad's band. Since then he has played everything from heavy metal to big band swing, across intimate venues, churches, community events, and larger stages. He was introduced to soul music at 15 and never looked back. When he is not performing live, Jarod stays active in recording and studio work, always chasing the right drum sounds.
